  1. Nature reserve at risk as part of 1,200 home plan for Scraptoft golf course
The proposal could more than double the size of the village

    don’t let it hapen!!!
The district council, which is struggling to meet Government targets to provide land for house building, says a 100 metre strip of the reserve would be kept but the rest surrendered.

The firm says the land, declared a nature reserve in 2002, has been overgrazed and no longer has a high ecological value.

cologists from Leicestershire County Council say the site is, for the most part, not overgrazed.

Villager Peter Canham is opposing the loss of the reserve.

He said: “The people who know about the threat to the nature reserve are up in arms about it but quite a few people do not know because it hasn’t been widely publicised.

“The reserve should be left alone – not given up for housing.

“Scraptoft is a tiny village and more than 700 homes have already been built in the past seven years.

“We can’t cope with another 1,200. The road will be choked up.”
